Goal
Describe the NOVA classification and its utility.
Results
The proportion of dietary energy in ultra-processed products has been recommended as an indicator of the quality of diets by the INFORMAS initiative. The utility of NOVA has been recognised in reports from the Pan American Health Organization and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. Also (see below), the NOVA four food groups are the basis for the main recommendations of the current official Brazilian national food and nutrition guide.
