Development of national dietary recommendations in Senegal

In this IDRC project, Julien Mangua (lead researcher) is conducting a comparative study on the evaluation of policies aimed at creating healthy and sustainable food environments in French-speaking West Africa (Senegal, Benin, Togo, Burkina-Faso and Ivory Coast). The project has the following objectives:

i) analyze and compare the results of the policy assessment with Food-EPI and then analyze to what extent sustainability is taken into account in food environment policies in the five West African countries;

ii) analyze and compare nutrition policies using an analysis grid to assess the extent to which gender issues are taken into account in the nutrition policies of the 5 countries;_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_

iii) conduct a Delphi study in which international food policy and sustainability experts will compare the effectiveness of pairs of policy areas and best practice policies in sustainability areas to determine a new index that takes into account the double burden malnutrition; 

​

iv) map and compare food system policies across five countries and five major cities using the new index.
