Jean Claude Moubarac
Jean-Claude Moubarac has been an assistant professor in public and international nutrition in the Department of Nutrition at the Université de Montréal since June 2016. He is a researcher at the Public Health Research Center of the Université de Montreal and the CIUSS de Nord-de l 'Ile (CReSP), and at the WHO Collaborating Center on Nutritional Transition (TRANSNUT) of the same University. He is an expert member of the Informas network monitoring food environments globally and in Canada within the module on food quality. He currently sits on the Montreal Food System Council (2020-2022).

He obtained a bachelor's degree (2000) and a master's degree (2002) in anthropology and a doctorate in public health (2010) at the University of Montreal. He then pursued postdoctoral studies in nutrition at the University of São Paulo in Brazil from 2011 to 2014. He is interested in food systems, the role of cooking and the effects of food processing on nutrition, health and society, public policies aimed at healthy eating, as well as the behavior of actors in the food system, including the agri-food industry. Among other things, he collaborated in the development of the 2014 Brazilian food guide and wrote a report on the purchase of ultra-processed foods and obesity in the Americas for the Pan American Health Organization in 2015. His work is among the most cited in the field aim to raise public awareness and inform the development of interventions and public policies for healthy eating and reducing the burden of obesity and chronic diseases. Jean-Claude worked as a program officer in the Food, Health and Environment program at the Canadian government's International Development Research Center in 2015 and collaborates with international bodies, including WHO and FAO.
