Second gereation of the 1993 birth cohort, Pelotas (Brazil): Aims, design, preliminary results
goal
Design and describe characteristics of the baseline sample of a second generation cohort: the 93Cohort-II, the offspring of the 1993 Pelotas Birth Cohort. Present preliminary results.
Results
Most children (65.6%) live with both parents and were born to young mothers and poor families. 1/3 were breastfed until 6 months. 50% were born by cesarean section. 63.9% used medication in the previous 15 days. 26.4% experienced hospitalization at least once since birth. 14% had no updated vaccination. 20.4% reported having asthma/bronchitis. 13.4% reported having bronchiolitis. Over 60% consumed UPF. 10.2% of those under 5 were overweight and 18.9% of those 6 and older were overweight. The mean total Child Behavior Checklist score was 44.1 +/- 23.61 and the mean IQ score for children 6 and older was 97.9 +/- 15.4.
